Infusing an empowering belief into every area of your life can be quite the challenge, but you must trust that all the ways it will change your life will be worth the effort in an exponential way. When I look back across my journey so far, I recognize how I’ve been growing with every step I take. In the moment, I’ve often questioned myself, but from this point of view now, I realize it’s all been worth it, and I’m so proud of who I am becoming.
Dear Brave Soul,
This is one of my personal journal entries, and as such, I’ve not written it with the intention of an audience. I’ve decided to share some of these reflections with you based on two desires:
1) to remember I am not alone — sharing my raw thoughts and being vulnerable may allow me to connect with others who have similar thoughts/feelings/experiences (aka, I’d love to hear from you!)
2) to remember I am not my ego — I believe we all have a right to share our opinions. However, for much of my life, even still, it’s been difficult for me to express myself out of fear someone will respond negatively. Being vulnerable and opening up with my potentially esoteric, or even controversial, thoughts is me facing that fear, and I understand it may very well cause my ego pain.
To note, these entries are largely unedited, though if I’ve added/clarified anything, you will see a ‘[…]’.
Sincerely,
my Dying Ego

I’m beginning to see the world in a much different way than I have previously. I think I started becoming open to the idea a while ago, and I still have more progress to make before the perspective becomes automatic. Because our way of viewing the world is habitual.
We were all told, and we all assumed, or the majority at least, that our world was separate from us, that what we perceived from the world is what changed us. And of course it can, but it’s become a loop, which is why a habit is so powerful. However, we took this idea that everything of the world, started externally, and then defined us and who we became. But we failed to realize one important thing. [E]verything we see in our world, actually started internally, from within us. Arguably, it may be hard to conceive, and so we understandably missed this [in] how we […] began to perceive the world.
The way things really work, is that it all starts from within. Our outer world is only a reflection of our inner world. And to change our outer world, we must go to the source, and change our inner world. And because our actions come from our words, and words from our thoughts, and thoughts from our beliefs, and beliefs from the way we perceive our world, to then control our habitual actions, we need only shift our understanding of the way things work, to shift our perception, to then change our world.
Based on our previous understanding, we all believe that the external defines our inner. However, the reason so many people are stuck in lives they do not want, is because our inner actually defines our outer. Think about it: if we incorrectly believed our happiness came externally, but our external didn’t give us happiness, then there is no happiness internally. But because our inner defines our outer, and our inner isn’t happy, then our outer isn’t either, and so we end up with a cycle of perpetual unhappiness, because little do we know, but we define our world. This old view is very disempowering, and I can understand why the victim mindset is so prevalent in our society.
So now, with this new understanding, realizing that we can break the cycle we used to live in: external –> internal –> external, because we then break the link that was the belief of our external creating our internal, then we’re no longer stuck, and we’re free to create our worlds without being hindered by all the resulting beliefs about our world.
Though honestly, to look now and to just start to understand how most if not all of our beliefs were formed on the basis of a false perception of how the world works, there is much to contemplate and rewire. So many of us feel sad, and think we’re stuck in it. And we are, only because we’ve been told and all ended up truly believing that we were because our external creates our internal. But with all of these beliefs, we have to break that idea, that link. It’s the same reason why people remain stuck in the same socioeconomic background, generation after generation. It’s the same reason for so many things I’ve yet to look into, but when I do, and when this thinking becomes automatic, I know my world will shift in currently unimaginable ways.
The thing to add to this idea, is the feelings that all of this gives us. In the old paradigm and the new. Feelings are what translates our thoughts, etc. Which is the reason exercise allows us to feel good. So I suppose maybe there are some ways the link from external to internal is helpful, though it would probably be more powerful if the idea started from within to exercise… something to consider a little more.
