How to Find Hope Again

In the deepest and darkest of times, you often lose hope. The tears come in waves as each self-pitying thought comes crashing down over you. Your heart is immersed in very real and physical pain caused by grief from a future you can only see shrouded in shadow. And you wallow in this pool of sorrow and you bathe in these torturous emotions. But can you see? These emotions are washing you in their power.

Yes. Power.

This horribly dark place you’ve found yourself in is beyond terrifying. You close your eyes and you wail and you sob. Only as you cry out your emotions, you unknowingly take back your power. But in this moment you still wonder how things could ever get any better. The circumstances that have finally put you in this awful gloomy place have been pestering you for so long. Months or years and sometimes decades. But listen. Every cloud has its silver lining. And every silver lining means there is still hope.

Yes. Hope.

As you wade through these intense feelings, you run into a spark of anger and frustration. Eventually, you encounter a piece of curiosity and you wonder if there could ever possibly be hope again. You open your eyes and there it is! That sliver of hope! You wipe away your tears and gallop in haste towards it, allowing your emotions to lead the reins this time. As you run and run something miraculous happens. Motivated by hope and propelled by your emotions, you now see the light more clearly. However, along the way you experience a vague sense of unknown danger. In fact, it’s right there on the path to hope. But for some beautiful reason, you keep sprinting towards that fear and you fly right through, almost without realizing.

When you’re in tune with your emotions, they often end up guiding you through fear. And when fueled with emotion, it has much less of an effect on you. Not that it doesn’t have any. However, apprehension is more often caused by your thoughts. So when you allow your emotions to take over, fear is much easier to conquer and you’ll soon find waiting just beyond, an entire world you may have never known.

I’d like to point something out. Remember that power you took back from your emotions? It never actually left you. There is a power inside of you. It’s always been there and it will always be there. The problem was that you didn’t acknowledge and listen to your emotions when they tried to speak up before. So instead, they rushed you in an overwhelming storm begging you to listen. The majority of people are afraid and ashamed of their emotions, but emotions are also what move us through fear. And as such they are often the wisest thing we could ever turn to.

Simply start by acknowledging your emotions. You ask everyone else how they’re feeling. Why not ask yourself?
